Through The Lens: Chiffon Magnifique @ The Cave Inn, Brisbane (13 March 2026)

Chiffon Magnifique @ The Cave Inn, Brisbane

There is no better way to spend Friday 13th in Brisbane than at The Cave Inn, so of course, we went to see Chiffon Magnifique perform as part of Fingerless ‘Repeater’ Album Launch. Brisbane's goths were out in full force and the venue was packed, with the event being sold out.

In contrast to the gig in November 2024, Jed played with a full band for this show. The saxophone was a great accompaniment and the backing vocals were entrancing. I danced along to all my favourite tracks, including Abomination, Cyanide and Witches Falls.

After seeing the full band play, I think they'd knock Adore out of the park, and hopefully they'll consider adding it to their setlist for future shows.

Beyond Nightmode: How Dracula can stalk your digital life

As a user of VS Code for some years now, I've always opted, naturally, for using the Dracula Theme

Today I was delighted to discover that the Dracula Theme is supported across many platforms! To mention a few:

They even have a theme for Ableton Live!

World Goth Day 2025

Happy World Goth Day 2025, dear readers. I celebrated with Bram Stoker's Dracula (1974) and a lovely cheese pizza just for me.

Top 5 Cemetery Music Videos from non-goth genres

As a big fan of cemeteries, cemetery music videos are something I enjoy finding, especially when they're from non-goth genres.

Here are the Top 5 cemetery music videos I've come across, all of which are fantastic songs too.

1. Death Valley Girls - Islands in the Sky

Genre: Garage Rock. Informally, "doom-boogie, psych-pop" as explained by the band.

Reason: Spooky visuals balanced with uplifting lyrics. Also, dancing ghosts! I was lucky to see Death Valley Girls perform this at Black Bear Lodge in 2023.

2. The Kills - Doing It To Death

Genre:
Indie Rock

Reason:
Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince ride on the bonnet of a hearse. Cool sunglasses. Great choreography.

3. Dilly Dally - I Feel Free

Genre: Alternative Rock

Reason: This one is so dark. The concept and storytelling accompany Enda's screams and the wailing guitars perfectly.

4. Grave Pleasures - Joy Through Death

Genre:
Post-punk

Reason:
I'd love to know where this cemetery is, because it's beautiful. The choreography is a bit off the wall and slightly amateur, which makes it all the more charming.

5. Amy Winehouse - Back to Black

Genre: Soul / Jazz

Reason: There are a bunch of great cemetery shots in this music video. In a way, I wish it hadn't been filmed in black and white, but it makes sense given the song's title and content.
