Digital Graveyards

This week I discovered the existence of the RIP top level domain. A top level domain is is the last segment of a domain or website name, e.g. the '.com' after 'google.com'.

As someone who works in tech but is also fascinated by cemeteries, the history of the death and funeral industry and how the technology is influencing this, it got me thinking a lot about potential uses for the TLD and digital memorials.

Well, as it turns out, the RIP TLD was actually created for online memorials and tributes in 2014. You can read more about it here: .rip Wikipedia page.

With Toowong Cemetery and South Brisbane Cemetery now closed to new interments, and both now deemed historic cemeteries, my only question now is - is it too early to register one of these domains for myself?
